Our guest speaker today is Rev. Renny Domske.
Prelude                     Music Director                   Bob Senay
ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Call to Worship:                  Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
   He leads me beside the still and quiet waters,
   He restores the strength in my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
   I will fear No evil, for You are with me.
  Your rod and Your staff bring me comfort.
You prepare a table before me right in front of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil, and my cup overflows.
  Surely goodness and love will follow me every day of my
  life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
* Hymn    “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”               #687

Prayer of Confession    (unison)
Great God, You are so faithful to us; Your promises are sure
and certain; You bring us comfort.  Yet Lord, we confess that
our promises are unsure and wavering; Our moods and our
commitment to You change like the weather.  Forgive us, Lord
Help us to be people who make promises and keep them.
Help us to be people of Your word and our word.
Forgive us our sins.  We thank You for giving Your life and
death for us and proving Your word by Your resurrection.

Prelude                                                           Bob Senay
ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP
L:  We Have come here to testify to Your love;
P: Come to us, living God, and shine Your light.
L: We have seen Your glory, full of grace and truth;
P: Come to us, living God, and shine Your light.
L: From Your fullness we have received every grace;
P: Come to us; living God, and shine Your light in our darkness.
INVOCATION                                         Rev. Mason
* HYMN      “Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty”         # 35

* PRAYER OF CONFESSION               (UNISON)
Gracious God, the disciples left all they had to follow the long-awaited Messiah.  You promised them hardship, rejection, a loss of comfort, hostility, suffering and finally, a cross to carry. We worry when we cannot see where You are leading; we question “why” when suffering comes; and ignore the parts of the gospel that disrupt our sense of security.  Forgive us, Lord. Forgive our selfish desire to have it both ways - to follow but at no cost; to claim You but not risk anything on Your behalf; to embrace new life without experiencing the garden of Gethsemane.  Remind us that we live not for ourselves but for the world, in Your stead.  By the power of Your Spirit, help us be Your disciples in the word and deed. Amen

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CALL TO WORSHIP:
While shepherds kept watching O’er silent flocks by night.
Behold throughout the heavens There shone a holy light.
    Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere.
    Go, tell on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
The Shepherds feared and trembled When lo! Above the earth,
    Rang out the angel chorus That hailed our Savior’s birth.
Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere.
Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
    Down in a lowly manger The humble Christ was born,
    And God sent us salvation That blessed Christmas morn.
Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere.
    Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
INVOCATION;                                                      Dr. Domske
* Hymn      While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks          #118
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:       (unison)
Our Father in Heaven, as we draw closer to the holy night of
Christmas, we are afraid to compare ourselves to Mary, Joseph,
And the Christ Child.  They are so pure, but we are so selfish.
They appear to us sinless, while we are full of sin.  Take our sins away, Lord.  Wash us clean and pure.  We are sorry we have approached life selfishly. We are sorry we have sinned.
We want to be Your sons and daughters as You made us to be.
Wash our sins away in the Christ Child’s Name.

 CALL TO WORSHIP:               from Psalm 19
The heavens declare the glory of God.
The skies proclaim the work of His hands.
    Day after day the heavens pour forth speech;
    night after night the skies display knowledge.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It rises
at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other.
    The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul
    The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
Forgive my hidden faults and errors, My Redeemer,
Keep Your servant also from willful sins.
     May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my
     heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord my Rock.

This week's guest speaker is Rev. Renny Domske.
                               First Sunday of Advent

Prelude                     Music Director               Bob  Senay
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Advent candle lighters: Garnet & Christine Welling

 CALL TO WORSHIP:               from Psalm 18
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
The Lord is my shield and the horn of my salvation.
 I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise.
In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried to my God for help.
From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came into His ears.
Smoke rose from His nostrils; consuming fire came from His Mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
He reached down from on high and took hold of me.
He drew me out of the deep waters—He rescued me.
The Lord rescued me because He delighted in me.
The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness.
INVOCATION:                                                            Dr. Domske
* Hymn    “Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus”          # 82

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION:                                  (UNISON)
O Lord God, Maker of all including me, I give You praise.
It seems foolish that we ignore You, desert You, sin against You. It seems ludicrous that we love ourselves more than we love You.  Yet we do. We sin. We look for our own self-interests first, long before we look out for our neighbors or especially You. Save us from ourselves, O God.  Forgive us for our short-sighted attitudes of sin. We are sorry we have failed You.  Put
us back into Your arms, where we belong.

Scripture reading:  I John 4: 13-21
                                   John 3: 12-21
1 John 4:13-21
13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

John 3:12-21
12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

 CALL TO WORSHIP:               from Psalm 17
Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea; listen to my cry.
Give ear to my prayer----may Your eyes see what is right.
   Though You probe my heart and examine me at night,
   You will find nothing: I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.
As for the deeds if men and women----by the word of Your lips
My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not slipped.
    I call on You, O God, for You will answer me;
   give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonder of Your great love,
You who will save me by Your right hand.

13 “You came down on Mount Sinai; you spoke to them from heaven. You gave them regulations and laws that are just and right, and decrees and commands that are good. 14 You made known to them your holy Sabbath and gave them commands, decrees and laws through your servant Moses. 15 In their hunger you gave them bread from heaven and in their thirst you brought them water from the rock; you told them to go in and take possession of the land you had sworn with uplifted hand to give them.

16 “But they, our ancestors, became arrogant and stiff-necked, and they did not obey your commands. 17 They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them, 18 even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, ‘This is your god, who brought you up out of Egypt,’ or when they committed awful blasphemies.

19 “Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take. 20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst. 21 For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.

The Transfiguration
17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

4
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

5
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

6
When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.
 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

9
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
