Announcements

CALL TO WORSHIP:
L: Loving God, grant us a spirit of wisdom and revelation
as we come to know You.
P: Enlighten the eyes of our hearts.
L: May we know what is the hope to which we are called,
P: May we enjoy with all the saints, the glorious inheritance
You have promised us in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Invocation:                               Nellie Baker CRE
All around us, we see trouble and wrongdoing. Our world is
consumed by violence and destruction.  Even in Your church,
O God are strife and contention.   The iniquity of this generation
hangs heavy upon us.  We cannot worship You apart from
turmoil that lies so close at hand.  Listen to us, God of all people.
Hear our longing for a new day in which Your reign of love is
established among us.  Amen.
*Hymn:  “Jesus Calls Us”                                     720

Prayer of Confession:
Gracious God, we confess we often supplant Your will with our
own, substitute our paltry dreams for ourselves for the abundant
visions You have for us. We hurt our neighbor; we neglect Your
good creation and we are powerless to change ourselves into the persons You created us to be.  Please heal our brokenness, forgive
our sins, and restore Your image in us: that we might lead
amended lives, becoming agents of Your will in this world, and
in the world to come.  Amen.

  Assurance of Pardon
  *Response - Gloria Patri
  * Passing the peace

L: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you
  P: And also, with you.

  Scripture reading:       Luke 19: 1-10
Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7
All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
