CALL TO CONFESSION
We turn to God in prayer. In that spirit, we offer this prayer of confession and unburdening:

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God on high, you are holy. You are Sovereign and you reign over all the earth. We confess that we take so much credit for our strivings and efforts. We have built great towers and made incredible technological advances. We can heal and create and accomplish amazing feats of athleticism. Yet, in all of this, we do not recognize your hand. We do not acknowledge that apart from you we can do nothing. God, we thank you that you have given us such incredible gifts and created us with intricate minds and bodies. God, thank you for the reminder that you are over all and in all and through all. Forgive us for forgetting your work in our lives and world. May you alone receive glory for all that you do through us. In your holy name. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON
The God of creation is a God of mercy. God is quick to forgive. Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!
*Time of silent prayer.
*Passing the Peace
L: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
P: And also, with you.

Scripture reading                                                                                MARK 13: 1-8
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times
13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

Benediction
May God bless you with Discomfort … at easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.May God bless you with Anger … at Injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace. May God bless you with Tears … to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that you may reach our your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy. And may God bless you with enough Foolishness … to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen.
