Welcome and Morning Greeting

INTROIT:  “God Will Take Care of You”

CALL TO WORSHIP: We yearn to be in the presence of the Holy One. To linger in the house of prayer, to walk beside still streams, to behold the radiance of creation. To sing our hymns with joy. To offer our sacrifice of service, to dwell all our days enfolded in the love of God. To praise God with our deeds and song.
INVOCATION

Hymn: “Dear Lord and Father of Mankind”

CALL OF CONFESSION: Jesus says, “Follow me” and invites us to leave our old lives behind. Come, let us confess our sins. Let us put down all that binds us and keeps us from responding to Him.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Jesus, you call us to follow and we resist. You call us to leave everything behind, and we cling to what we know. You call us to repent, and we hesitate. You call us to love our neighbors, and we love ourselves. You call us to sacrifice, and we choose safety. You call us to believe Your Good News, and we are afraid. Merciful God, we remember that the present form of this world is passing away. We believe again that you have the words of eternal life. Jesus, by the power of your Spirit, grant us the grace of true repentance, that we might see what is real and believe what is true. AMEN

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever would believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. God sent His Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that through Him, the world might be saved. Friends, this is Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen.

*Time of silent prayer.

Passing the Peace
L. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
P. And also, with you.

CHILDREN’S SERMON

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION
SCRIPTURE LESSON Mark 1: 14 - 20
Jesus Announces the Good News

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.

19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
L: The Word of the Lord
P. Thanks be to God!

SERMON: “Going to the Thin Place”

HYMN: “Jesus Calls Us, O’er the Tumult”

APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
      maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost
and born of the virgin Mary.
      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, dead and buried.
On the third day he arose from the dead.
      He ascended into heaven
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the holy catholic church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE OFFERING (Offering plates located near the door)
