The video posted below has just the sermon through the pastoral prayer. Please take some time to read the rest of the service, which is produced in text below.
Hymn: Now Thank We All Our God
Call to Worship Jesus calls us to servant ministry. We must be willing to help others, not counting the cost or rewards. Pretense, disharmony, greed have no place in discipleship. Serving God means receiving each person as though they were a beloved child. Lord, help us to truly become your disciples. Create in each of us hearts of ministry and compassion and kindness.
Hymn: God of Grace and God of Glory
Prayer of Confession God of patience and mercy, we come to you this Sabbath morning offering our word to serve you, but when things get difficult; when we are called to do something hard, we have a tendency to shy away from the duty and the opportunity. We turn out back on service out of fear of failure. Forgive us, gracious Lord and heal our fears and our weaknesses. Strengthen us and give us courage to truly be your disciples, not counting the rewards, but rejoicing in the work. This day the Lord reaches out to you with healing love and compassion. Receive the blessing that God offers to you. Be healed and be made whole and be ready to serve. We ask all these things on this Sabbath morning in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Time of Personal Reflection Assurance of Pardon In Christ there is no east or west, In him no south or north, But one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth. In Jesus Christ, there is new life. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Apostle's Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the virgin Mary. Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. On the third day he arose from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Children's Sermon Prayer of Illumination Shared Passage from the Bulletin We'll all fail at some point in our life. Failing is a learning experience so we can do better the next time. There were many Biblical leaders who failed, but did they dwell on them? No, they learned from their mistakes and kept on moving forward. Determination and failure leads to success. You fail and get up and try again. Eventually you will get it right. When you give up, that is failure. True failure is not even trying to get back up, but just quitting. You could have been so close, but you say it's not going to work. God is always near and if you fall he'll pick up and dust you off. We are to keep on pursuing righteousness and use God's strength. We must have faith in the Lord. Put your trust in God. If God told you to do something and if something is God's will then it will never fail. Scripture Lesson Selected Verses Jeremiah 8:4
